(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Wednesday on plans by President Trump to pull the United States out of the Paris climate change agreement:
“This decision by President Trump especially hammers our future – our grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on, who will forever ask why America chose to align itself with Syria and Nicaragua and not participate in this landmark effort to save our planet.
“The United States of America has an obligation to lead as shining example, but President Trump puts ideology before science and partisanship before humanity. It’s shockingly negligent and another example of his failed leadership.
“The best we can hope for is the damage suffered under President Trump can be limited and our next president – and next governor to lead by example on the state level – is an intelligent leader full of common sense and compassion for the future of this planet and our health.”
