Speaker Prieto: Why is Gov. Christie failing to help Atlantic City?

(TRENTON) — Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson) had the following published recently in the Newark Star-Ledger:

“This is an indisputable fact — Gov. Chris Christie already has the authority to save Atlantic City from financial catastrophe.

“The real question New Jersey must ask is why isn’t Gov. Christie using that authority? What’s his motive in allowing Atlantic City to flounder as he fails to act? Gov. Christie is fiddling. He makes Nero look like a man of action.

“We don’t need an alternative to the unnecessary state takeover of Atlantic City, a move that would disenfranchise voters and trample collective bargaining rights. The state’s Local Finance Board and the Department of Community Affairs already have sufficient authority over Atlantic City’s finances to prevent a financial disaster.

“Gov. Christie needs to do his job…”
