In response to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) finalizing an agreement with NJTRANSIT to help fund the replacement of the Portal North Bridge through a $766.5 million grant, Speaker Pro Tempore Gordon Johnson (D-Bergen) issued the following statement:
“New Jerseyans deserve quality, reliable infrastructure. For years, residents have waited for the outdated Portal North Bridge to be replaced. At more than a century old, this heavily-used passenger rail line has caused significant disruptions for countless commuters due to mechanical failures – failures that have been far too frequent. I am pleased to see construction is that much closer to getting underway thanks to the support of the FTA. I look forward to seeing this project begin.”
