Spencer: Christie Should Explain Anti-Environment Record During Monday Beach Visit

(TRENTON) – Assembly Environment Chairwoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex) released the following statement Monday on Gov. Chris Christie’s plan to emphasize the importance of clean beaches and waterways during a Monday beach visit:

“Since taking office, Gov. Christie has put the environment in the crosshairs, following a path that would turn back the clock on many key protections.
“Let’s face it – Gov. Christie has followed the right-wing when it comes to the environment. He’s worked to let corporations ignore rules they don’t like and cozied up with billionaire oil interests while pulling New Jersey out of a vital regional initiative to cut greenhouse gases.
“Gov. Christie even vetoed key Barnegat Bay protections, opened the door to allowing the DEP to waive environmental protections and appointed people to the Highlands Council who actually oppose implementing the act meant to protect drinking water for much of our state.
“If Gov. Christie wants to emphasize the importance of clean beaches and waterways, then he has a lot of explaining to do to defend his anti-environment actions.”
