Spencer Hails Jersey City’s Bike Lane Initiative

(29th Legislative District) – Assembly Environment Chairwoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex) released the following statement on Jersey City’s plan to create 54.7 miles of bike lanes and shared bike routes as part of the city’s 365 Days of Green initiative:

“I applaud Jersey City’s initiative. Not only is a great step toward a greener New Jersey, but it will also promote good health, and that’s something we can all support.
“As an avid cyclist myself, and also as an advocate of clean environment, I urge other municipalities throughout New Jersey to take a look at Jersey City’s program and make efforts to emulate it. By promoting green initiatives such as this, we will be a better New Jersey.
“I also laud the focus on bicycle safety, since that must be a part of any such program. That’s something I’ve focused on through legislation (A-599) I’ve introduced to require motorists to maintain a distance of at least three feet when overtaking a bicycle that is travelling in the same direction.
“A clean environment, healthier residents and safer streets are all positives for our state.”
