Spencer Teams up with Kappa Alpha Psi, Local Business for Holiday Giveaway Benefitting Women & Children of Wynona’s House in Newar

(NEWARK) – Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex) has teamed up with the Newark Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and Newark business Jimenez Tobacco for a holiday giveaway to bring some holiday cheer to the women and children of Wynona’s House this Christmas Eve.

Named after its founder, the late Senator Wynona M. Lipman, Wynona’s House is a child advocacy center that works to promote justice and healing for child victims of abuse and violence by coordinating investigations, prosecution, treatment, and prevention services for children and families.

“I am grateful to all those who donated, and hope that the generosity displayed by so many wonderful people will continue beyond the holidays. This organization does important work and deserves our support not just once a year, but all year round,” said Spencer. “Unfortunately the neglect and abuse of children happens every day. Children should have a reason to smile every day, not just during the holidays. I hope that people will take this to heart and continue to give throughout the year.”

The Newark Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and Jimenez Tobacco Owner Peter Jimenez donated toys, food, clothing and money. Donations also came from residents throughout the state. Spencer and Kenneth Wright, the polemarch of the Newark Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, will present all donations collected to Wynona’s House Executive Director Evelyn Mejil at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at Wynona’s House, located on 185 Washington Street, Newark, NJ.

Wynona’s House had its funding cut in June, but Spencer and her colleagues in the Assembly were able to get it restored. For more on how to help Wynona’s House, visit the organization’s website.
