Sumter: Funds are Critical to College Students

Assembly Majority Conference Leader Shavonda E. Sumter (D-Passaic) had the following published recently in the Courier-Post:

“I should no longer be shocked by any of Gov. Chris Christie’s proposal. Yet, this latest one proposing a cut to the Educational Opportunity Fund as surprising as it is detrimental to current and future college student success.

“As a beneficiary and alumni of the EOF program at Kean University, this program made the difference both financially and supportively. Because EOF dollars support a summer institute that aids students with the transition into college for first-generation college students, I was not just a number at a large public university. I was, as were countless others, part of a program that championed our success through college…”
