Sumter on NJ Transit Fare Hikes, Service Reductions

(TRENTON) – Assembly Majority Conference Leader Shavonda Sumter (D-Bergen, Passaic) issued the following state concerning NJ Transit’s 9 percent fare increase and service reductions:

“New Jersey commuters are now paying more for less service. Family budgets are stretched to the limit and this increase is a jab right at the pockets of the working class.

“Nine percent is more than a merit increase and too steep for working New Jersey families who are counting every dime in this economy.

“It is grossly unfair for commuters who are simply trying to work for a living or college students going to school to be further burdened financially by inflated transit costs.”
