Sumter on Pay Equity Bill Conditional Veto by Governor: "The Fight for Equal Pay for Women Is Not Over."

(TRENTON) – Assembly Majority Conference Leader Shavonda Sumter (D- Bergen, Passaic) released the following statement on the veto of the pay equity legislation:

“The conditional veto of the pay equity bill is disheartening but the fight for equal pay for every hard-working woman in New Jersey is NOT over.

“This is not a mere discrepancy in pay for women. It is a despicable practice that has kept women from earning the same as their counterparts as well as from fighting for equal pay for fear of retaliation.

“Gender pay inequity will require legislative action for it to be resolved. The Governor should have signed the bill as presented.”
