Sumter: "The Right Thing to Do is to Resign"

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter (D- Bergen, Passaic) joined the call on Wednesday for the resignation of Elmwood Park School Board Trustee Gladys Gryskiewicz:

“There’s no grey area in public service when it comes to clear comments made in black and white against a community.

“When you run for and accept a position as a public representative, you must serve all members of the public — your constituents — without bias towards, race, culture, religion, sexual orientation or disability. This is the oath you take as a public servant.

“By continuing the conversation over Mrs. Gryskiewicz’s resignation, we perpetuate the damage and division of a community caused by her comments. Educating our children and the work of the school board members and trustees should remain a priority. However, her comments have become a distraction to these efforts. The right thing for Mrs. Gryskiewicz to do is to resign voluntarily and apologize to the residents of Elmwood Park.”
