Sumter & Wimberly on Passing of U.S. Senator Lautenberg

(PATERSON) – 35th Legislative District Assembly members Shavonda E. Sumter and Benjie E. Wimberly (both D-Paterson) released the following joint statement Monday upon the passing of U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg:

“We join, today, our state and nation in mourning the loss of U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg. With Senator Lautenberg’s passing, the City of Paterson, the State of New Jersey, and the nation says farewell to an extraordinary individual and unfailing champion.

“We are truly honored to have had the opportunity to join with Senator Lautenberg in fighting for the residents of Paterson and all of New Jersey’s communities on many issues. His work in the U.S. Senate was nothing short of inspirational to each of us.

“His legacy is not only the loving family he leaves behind, but in his tireless advocacy of impactful legislation affecting gun control, health, transportation and the environment.

“Senator Lautenberg’s relentless energy and drive for a better New Jersey will surely be missed.”
