SUPPORT FOR NEW ASSEMBLY DEM LAW TO POST LOCAL BUDGETS BE POSTED ONLINE

“…Taxpayers shouldn’t have to call or take time off work to go to their borough hall during business hours to see a copy of the town budget or an ordinance or meeting agenda. And it shouldn’t take anything more than a few mouse clicks to get a building application or dog license form or something else of that nature.
“So we applaud this new law — pushed by a handful of South Jersey Democratic legislators in Trenton — that will make sure taxpayers statewide have easy access to how their local and county governments spend their tax dollars. When it comes to transparency such as this, we’re all for state or federal mandates that require more public material to be posted online.
“There’s just no excuse anymore for denying the taxpaying public convenient access via the web to data and documents that belong to them.”
