Members of the New Jersey 18th Legislative District, Senator Patrick Diegnan, Assemblywoman Nancy Pinkin, and Assemblyman Robert Karabinchak (D-Middlesex) announced on Friday, October 5th, that the Reformed Church of Highland Park Affordable Housing Corporation has been approved to receive a $700,000 award from the National Housing Trust Fund program.
“We’re glad to see great charitable organizations like the Reformed Church receive needed support for their efforts to combat homelessness in our communities,” said Senator Diegnan.
This award will provide funds for the project known as “Highland Park – Housing the Homeless” 2018 which will consist of the acquisition and substantial rehabilitation of 4 rental units located at 202 North 3rd Avenue, and 212 Amherst Street, Highland Park, Middlesex County.
“One of my top priorities is to bring as much federal and state money as possible back to our District. I’m glad this grant will provide steady housing for the homeless in Highland Park,” said Assemblyman Karabinchak.
Assemblywoman Pinkin added, “This is always an important objective, but especially as we approach the winter months, this funding will help to provide warm shelter to those in need”
The National Housing Trust Fund was established in 2008 after Congress passed the Housing and Economic Recovery Act. Its aim is to build, rehabilitate, preserve, and operate rental housing for extremely low income people. In FY 2018, New Jersey’s Department of Community Affairs was allocated $7.7 million through the Fund.
