THURSDAY: Democratic Lawmakers to Announce Measure to Reform Out-of-Network Care Costs

Legislation to Increase Transparency, Disclosure for New Jersey Consumers

Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee Chair Joseph F. Vitale (D-Middlesex) will join Assembly Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee Chair Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex), Assembly Budget Committee Chair Gary S. Schaer (D-Bergen/Passaic) and Assemblyman Troy Singleton (D-Burlington) during a noon news conference on Thursday to introduce comprehensive legislation to advance consumer protection by requiring full disclosure of out-of-network health care charges.

The legislators noted that the bill will emphasize transparency and help ensure that New Jersey consumers fully understand the financial responsibilities they may incur prior to accepting non-emergency out-of-network care.

Linda Schwimmer, vice president of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute, will also attend.

The news conference will take place on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at noon in Room 103, State House, Trenton, New Jersey.
