Timberlake “Covered with Compassion” Event Provides Free Wigs and Supportive Services to Women with Hair Loss

Women experiencing hair loss or thinning due to medical issues such as cancer and alopecia had the opportunity to receive a free wig through Assemblywoman Britnee N. Timberlake’s “Covered with Compassion” initiative on Monday, October 28, 2019. Timberlake hosted the event at her legislative office in East Orange this morning, with over 100 participants of all ages in attendance.

“The aim of this annual event is to encourage and assist women with their health and self-esteem at a time when they may be struggling with other challenges, including potentially serious medical problems,” Timberlake (D-Essex and Passaic) explained.

The wig giveaway was made possible by the donations of generous community members. Thanks to their contribution, more than 85 wigs were collected on behalf of New Jersey women. Every woman who requested a wig was able to receive one.

Upon receiving their free wig, attendees had the opportunity to sit with a professional hairdresser to get the new hairpiece styled to their liking. In addition to complimentary refreshments, the event also included beauty makeovers and complimentary massages to help promote happiness and relaxation.

In order to assist the women with their overall well-being, they were also offered free health screenings and education.

“Unpreventable hair loss can cause women to develop feelings of low self-esteem or self-worth,” said Timberlake. “That’s why I began this initiative – to provide them with an opportunity to feel good about themselves again while also taking care of their health. I’m glad we had this opportunity to help empower women to feel beautiful on both the inside and outside.”
