Timberlake Hosts Monthly “Hour of Power” Celebration in Honor of Women’s History Month

Salutes Local Women during New Monthly Gathering Focusing on Community Issues, Solutions and Action

Providing a forum to address community issues, formulate solutions and encourage action, Assemblywoman Britnee N. Timberlake (D-Essex, Passaic) hosted her monthly “Hour of Power” lunchtime community empowerment series Thursday.

“For many people, the thought of developing a strategy to make our communities stronger and more vibrant seems overwhelming,” she said. “However, these meetings are moments of strength and celebration.”

Launched in February during Black History Month, the program highlights local residents for their contributions to the community and their impact on District 34. The March meeting was devoted to celebrating four women as part of Women’s History Month: Brenda Gainey, Yvonne Donna Marshall, Dr. Adaeze Okika, and Goldie Burbage.

A former environmental chemist, Brenda Gainey currently heads the 2nd Brigade JROTC Office in Fort Dix, New Jersey. Assemblywoman Timberlake also honored Yvonne Donna Marshall, a native of Guyana, prominent community leader and highly-regarded real estate agent. Dr. Adaeze Okika, best known for her work with the United Nations, was also honored during the occasion. Additionally, Goldie Burbage was celebrated for her numerous contributions to the Essex County community.

The monthly Hour of Power meetings are held at Assemblywoman Timberlake’s district office located at 520 Main Street, East Orange, New Jersey 07018. Guests interested in participating should call that office at (973) 395-1166.
