Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex) released the following statement regarding the President’s disgraceful remarks about the ‘Squad’ of four Congresswomen of color:
“I stand with the brave women in Washington who refuse to remain silent about the dangerous and divisive actions of an irresponsible President. Too many elected officials are unwilling to challenge his harmful ideology, yet Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib continue to speak out against his unjust policies.
“The President’s racist and misogynistic statements intentionally stoked the flames of fear and hostility in his supporters. His decision to further divide and mislead the American people in order to deflect criticism and distract from the real issues underscores just how unsuitable he is to lead our country.
“America is great because of its diversity, yet that is exactly what President Trump seeks to denounce. We cannot give power to his deleterious rhetoric; it is his words that must be denounced.
“Now more than ever, we must rise above the hatred and unite in our endeavor for freedom and truth.”
