Tucker, Johnson Bill to Create Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery Signed by Governor

Legislation sponsored by Assembly Democrats Cleopatra G. Tucker and Gordon M. Johnson to designate a burial site for North Jersey veterans and an option on the state tax return for residents to contribute to the fund was signed into law on Thursday.

“Designating a burial site for veterans in the northern part of the state allows families to be closer to their loved ones,” said Tucker (D-Essex). “This is an honorable recognition of the sacrifices made by our service men and women and their families.”

The law establishes the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery Development Fund and provides for a designation on the state gross income tax return that will permit taxpayers to make voluntary contributions to the fund.

“Our veterans will now have a resting place within their own communities and where their families reside,” said Johnson (D-Bergen). “This is the right thing to do to honor our veterans in northern New Jersey.”

The fund will facilitate the development and operation of the Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
