TUCKER TAKING CHARGE OF NJ MILITARY AND VETERAN ISSUES IN NEW LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Essex) has been named Chairwoman of the Assembly Military and Veterans Affairs Committee by Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver and the Assembly Democratic leadership team.

“I am confident that Assemblywoman Tucker will be a nice fit as the new chairwoman of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee,” said Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic). “She has been a valuable member of our caucus and understands the sanctity of the issues she’s been entrusted with.”

As chairwoman, Tucker will be responsible for overseeing legislative initiatives pertaining to active military service members and veterans.

“I’m pleased that the Democratic leadership team has placed firm confidence in my ability to lead this committee,” said Assemblywoman Tucker. “In picking up the torch from former committee chair and Assemblyman Jack Connors, I’m committed to fighting for the rights of our active service men and women and our veterans. We can never truly repay them for the sacrifices they’ve made, which is why it’s all the more important that we do everything in our power to protect their rights and benefits at home.”

The first meeting of the Military and Veterans Affairs Committee for 215th legislature will be February 6th 2012.
