VAINIERI HUTTLE: CHRISTIE PLAN A HEALTH CARE TAX ON WORKING FAMILIES

Assembly Human Services Chairwoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) on Tuesday morning released the following statement on the Republican plan to increase health insurance premiums on 19,500 NJ FamilyCare enrollees:

“The Christie plan to increase health insurance premiums is a health care tax on working class New Jerseyans. Gov. Christie may call these increases ‘savings,’ but most people would look at them and simply conclude that low-income people will now pay more for health care. This is unfortunate for many reasons, especially because we know full well what happens when people cannot afford health insurance – they end up going to emergency rooms for more expensive health problems that cost taxpayers much more money. This is a short-sighted health care tax that will cost New Jersey in the long-run. It neither makes sense economically nor morally.”
