Vainieri Huttle Introduces Bill to Improve Transparency in Rideshare Industry

(TRENTON) – Aiming to address transportation safety, especially within New Jersey’s booming rideshare industry, Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) introduced legislation today to improve transparency and safety for New Jerseyans.

The bill would require transportation companies, taxi and limousine services to report crime statistics to the Attorney General, who would issue a yearly report on this data.

This legislation would ensure transparency within New Jersey’s transportation networks. In addition to reporting incidents of crime such as sexual assault, the measure outlines that companies must also report whether criminal charges were filed and whether any person was banned from providing or utilizing the company’s services.

“Every day, thousands of passengers entrust drivers to get them to work, home and school safely. Whether you are using a rideshare company, taxi or limousine service, all New Jerseyans should have the utmost confidence that they will be safe,” said Vainieri Huttle. “This bill aims to ensure proper oversight and accountability.”

The measure now goes to the Assembly Speaker for further consideration.
