Vainieri Huttle Introduces Legislation to Provide Paid Sick Leave for New Jerseyans to Receive COVID-19 Vaccination

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) has introduced legislation to require all New Jersey employers to provide workers with paid sick leave to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

Under the legislation (A-5674), employers would be required to provide a one-time paid sick leave credit to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine, with an additional credit being provided if an employee requires a second dose or time off to recover from a vaccine-related reaction.

“Governor Murphy says it well: ‘Public health creates economic health.’ We want to get New Jersey on the right track to a new normal and to do that we need to ensure that all New Jerseyans who want to receive the COVID-19 have access to it. That includes having the ability to take time off of work to receive their vaccination. This legislation will help to ensure that our most vulnerable workers, those who can’t leave work to go get their COVID-19 shot, have the access that they need,” said Vainieri Huttle.

The measure now goes to the Assembly Speaker for further review.
