VAINIERI HUTTLE ON CHAIRING ASSEMBLY HUMAN SERVICES COMMITTEE

(ENGLEWOOD) – Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle is the new chair of the Assembly Human Services Committee.

Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) was recently named to the post by Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver, who previously led the panel.

The Human Services Committee handles issues concerning the status of women, the welfare of children and ways to foster the growth of families.

“I’m thankful for the confidence Speaker Oliver has shown in me to lead this committee, especially amid the continued worries about the global economic crisis,” Vainieri Huttle said. “We’ve made great progress in areas such as improving child welfare and modernizing our psychiatric hospitals, but we still have work to do to ensure the disenfranchised and vulnerable children and adults living on the economic edges are protected.”

Vainieri Huttle, of Englewood, was first elected to the Assembly in November 2005.

“I look forward to helping lead our efforts to continue our progress and ensure the most vulnerable members of our society can navigate through this tough economy and some difficult decisions that may lie ahead,” Vainieri Huttle said.

During the legislative process, committees and their chairpersons review and reconfigure bills and take testimony from people and organizations that may be affected by the legislation. Bills that make their way through the committee process can be posted for floor votes in the full Assembly.
