On the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen), chair of the Assembly Homeland Security and State Preparedness Committee, released the following statement:
“Every American remembers where they were on the day our country was changed forever. We remember the horror, heartbreak and overwhelming loss.
“In the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, we witnessed the true power of the American spirit. Around the nation, we emerged stronger and more unified than before – we grieved for those who were lost and together we resolved to preserve our freedoms and to fight against hatred, ignorance and violence.
“In memory of the over 3,000 lives who were lost eighteen years ago, we honor their legacies by advocating for a world of tolerance, love and empathy.
“In the wake of senseless violence around our country, now is the time more than ever to remember the cost of hatred, now is the time to stand together and call for acceptance and peace.”
