Vainieri Huttle to Christie: You don’t have to trample public workers to save Atlantic City

Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) on Monday issued the following statement on the future of Atlantic City:

“The Governor would have everyone believe that the only way to save Atlantic City from insolvency is to trample public workers, strip residents of their right to a representative government and sell off city assets, perhaps irrevocably.

“Lost in all of this is one important fact that the Speaker pointed out last week – the Governor already possesses nearly all the tools he needs under existing laws and regulations to help Atlantic City.

“Trampling on the collective bargaining rights of public workers and selling off city assets should be a last resort, not the first go-to option.

“I commend Speaker Prieto for taking a measured and thoughtful approach to the situation and standing up against tremendous pressure while the Governor refuses to negotiate in good faith with one half of the state legislature.

“I stand with the Speaker in fighting to ensure that the Assembly has an equal seat at the table while we work to protect Atlantic City’s future,” said Vainieri Huttle.
