Vitale, Coughlin and Lopez Congratulate Perth Amboy School District on Lighthouse District Designation

In recognition of the district’s academic achievements and improvements, the Perth Amboy School District was named a Lighthouse District by the New Jersey Board of Education on Wednesday. The designation is awarded to school districts which demonstrated improved performances in recent years, particularly by using data to individualize education in English and mathematics for a diverse group of students.

“I offer my sincere congratulations to the Perth Amboy Public School District on being recognized as a Lighthouse District,” said Senator Joseph Vitale (D-Middlesex). “This achievement highlights the hard work of the professionals throughout the district, who come in every day to place the district on a continued trajectory for success. A great education remains the best foundation for future success and Perth Amboy students will certainly reap the benefits of their excellent school system.”

“I could not be more proud of the outstanding students, educators and administrators of the Perth Amboy School District for earning this impressive designation,” said Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “Lighthouse Districts set an example for schools across the state to strive for excellence in all they do. I’m thrilled to see one of our local districts recognized for their leadership and achievements.”

“As a graduate of the Perth Amboy Public School District, I am filled with pride for both the students and staff on this recognition,” said Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex). “Being recognized as a Lighthouse District demonstrates the dedication of the school community in meeting the needs of their students. Perth Amboy students are receiving a tremendous education that will benefit them for years to come and this achievement becomes a part of the numerous awards the district continues to receive.”

“Perth Amboy Public School has embarked upon a renaissance and is committed to providing opportunities for the students of the district to enter our nation with a purposeful voice,” said Dr. David Roman, Superintendent of the Perth Amboy School District. “The district has been working collaboratively with all stakeholders of the school community in an effort to provide strategic and targeted supports for students to achieve greater standards of academic excellence.”

“Lighthouse Districts can serve as beacons of success for public education in New Jersey,” said Education Commissioner Lamont O. Repollet. “We congratulate the Perth Amboy School District for being awarded this designation, acknowledging their tremendous academic gains. This honor befits your coastal city, and I encourage your students and educators to continue to shine a light and serve as a model of success for other districts throughout the state.”

The Perth Amboy School District was recognized at the New Jersey Department of Education’s “Equity for All” Statewide Conference at the College of New Jersey on Wednesday.
