Vitale, Coughlin & Lopez Applaud Cheesequake Creek Dredging Project

(TRENTON) – Senator Joseph Vitale, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (all D-Middlesex) released the following joint statement praising the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ announcement of a $4.1 million contract for the dredging of Cheesequake Creek in Middlesex County:

“We join local boaters, marina owners and the entire Cheesequake community in celebrating this progress.

“It has been 30 years since the last maintenance dredging and this work is long overdue. Sediment deposits in the waterway have accumulated substantially impacting not only the depth of the waterway, but also the small business community built around Cheesequake.

“The completion of the dredging will improve safety and breathe new life into the local economy. Thank you to Congressman Frank Pallone, Senator Bob Menendez and Senator Cory Booker for their unwavering advocacy and to everyone who made this accomplishment possible. We look forward to the Army Corps of Engineers’ work and to seeing the finished product.”
