Senator Joseph Vitale, Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Middlesex) released the following statement today regarding the fire that took place at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carteret Tuesday Night:
“We are heartbroken for the parishioners of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and members of the Carteret community who have lost so much during last night’s fire at St. Mary’s.
“The response of the brave firefighters from not only Carteret but neighboring communities epitomized true professionalism in the face of danger. We are grateful for their collective effort to contain the fire and keep those nearby safe. We will continue to keep the parishioners of St. Mary’s and the residents of Carteret in our prayers. Along with Mayor Reiman, we will do anything we can to assist in the recovery of this church that has been a part of Carteret’s history for over 60 years.”
