Watson Coleman Statement on GOP Vote Against Bill to Deny Gun Permits to Individuals on FBI Terror Watch List

(TRENTON) — Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Mercer/Hunterdon), a member of the Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee, which is hearing a comprehensive list of anti-gun violence measures today, issued the following statement concerning Republican opposition to legislation (A-3687), which would deny any person on the FBI Terrorist Watchlist a firearms identification card or permit:

“I remain astonished that elected officials today voted against keeping guns out of the hands of those on the Terror Watchlist.

“This is as basic as it gets.

“We’re sent here to protect the public safety of our constituents. That means keeping guns out of the hands of those on the Terror Watchlist. Anyone who voted against this bill or abstained needs to rethink their priorities.”

Two Assembly Republican committee members voted against the bill and a third abstained.
