WEINBERG, HUTTLE, STENDER, GREENSTEIN TO RALLY FOR RESTORATION OF CRITICAL FAMILY PLANNING FUNDING

As Part of National Women’s Health Week, Legislators Hope to Revive Vital Lifeline
(TRENTON) – As part of National Women’s Health Week, Senator Loretta Weinberg and Assemblywomen Valerie Vainieri Huttle, Linda Stender, and Linda Greenstein will hold a press conference on Thursday to rally for the restoration of funding for family planning agencies throughout the state, which provide critical health services for those that have little to no health insurance.

The legislators will also unveil budget alternatives to help keep this vital health network in place. The event will take place tomorrow, May 13, at 12 Noon in Committee Room 1 of the Statehouse Annex where the legislators will be joined by a coalition of supporters.

Gov. Christie’s proposed budget calls for the elimination of the entire $7.5 million in funding for family planning agencies, which provide nearly 140,000 un- and under-insured patients with comprehensive health care services that include: routine gynecological exams; prenatal care; screenings for high blood pressure, anemia, diabetes, sexually transmitted infections, and breast and cervical cancer; as well as critical education and outreach.
