(PATERSON) – Assemblyman Benjie E. Wimberly issued the following statement on the call for Elmwood Park school board trustee Gladys Gryskiewicz to resign due to derogatory comments made against the Muslim community:
“Elected officials are held to a higher standard, even more so in this age of social media.
“Elected officials cannot pick and choose who they represent. We represent everyone one equally in the communities we serve. Mrs. Gryskiewicz comments were discriminatory and divisive. These kinds of remarks should not be tolerated by anyone in public office.
“I hope the school board does not take the call for Mrs. Gryskiewicz’s resignation lightly. This is a serious matter that requires immediate attention and action.”
