(Paterson) – Assemblyman Benjie E. Wimberly issued the following statement regarding the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington:
“The March on Washington held in our nation’s capital today is as significant now as it was in 1963 when 250,000 people marched for jobs and equality.
“Although we have seen many changes and made great strides in the last 50 years, we must acknowledge the quest to fulfill Dr. King’s vision of a fair and equal America continues. In many ways, the fight of yesterday is still the fight of today.
“For New Jersey this means providing all children a solid foundation for their future through education, giving families working minimum wage jobs the opportunity to keep up with the cost of living and protecting communities in the wake of rising gun violence.
“Coretta Scott King said ‘A struggle is a never-ending process. You earn and win in every generation.’ We have won many times. We have evolved over the last 50 years and, most importantly, we will continue to evolve in the years ahead.”
