Wisniewski: GAO Report Shows Christie Used Fake Facts to Kill a Critical Transportation Project

New Jersey Commuters, Drivers Will Suffer For Years to Come

Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski, Deputy Speaker and Chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, issued the following statement in response to today’s U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on the Access to the Region’s Core Tunnel Project.

“Today’s GAO report on the costs and benefits of the Access to the Region’s Core (ARC) tunnel confirms what I have been saying all along. Governor Christie’s decision to cancel the ARC tunnel was a short-sighted, politically-driven decision, not the ‘tough decision’ he claimed it to be.

“The ARC tunnel was an opportunity to create jobs for our residents, provide more reliable mass transit for New Jersey commuters and ease road congestion. The report documents that the Governor used exaggerated claims and distorted information to reach a pre-ordained decision. It is a decision that will have a detrimental effect on New Jersey’s economy and haunt commuters and drivers for years to come.”
