Wisniewski: NJ Transit Trip to Super Bowl Shows More Poor Judgment

(SAYREVILLE) – Deputy Assembly Speaker John S. Wisniewski, the Assembly Transportation chairman, released the following statement on Friday in response to news reports of NJ Transit sending four employees to the 2013 Super Bowl:

“NJ Transit’s poor judgment is once again on display with the news reports that the agency sent four employees to the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans.
“NJ Transit operates one of the largest mass transit systems in the country and already provides commuting options to MetLife stadium, the only stadium in the country that is home to two NFL teams.
“Its security operation was built around the lessons learned from its own experience and that of its partner transit agencies with the 9/11 terrorist attack and response. It is an agency whose operations are still recovering from Superstorm Sandy and its decision to store rail equipment in an area that suffered severe flooding.
“In light of its wealth of experience managing operations and security for large events, the crisis from which it is still recovering and the public’s deteriorating confidence in the agency’s judgment, the decision to fund a Super Bowl junket for four employees reflects poorly on both NJ Transit and on Gov. Christie.”
