WISNIEWSKI ON CHRISTIE ROAD WORK SUSPENSION: ‘IT’S TIME FOR THE GOVERNOR TO STOP AVOIDING THE HARD DECISIONS’

Assembly Transportation Committee Chairman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) released the following statement Friday on the Christie administration’s decision to halt all state-funded transportation construction projects effective Monday:

“The Governor can try to spin this any way he pleases, but the reality is that we cannot continue to fund a broken system. This administration has had nine months to come up with an honest plan to fund the Transportation Trust Fund and has failed to do so.

“Now, at the close of business on a Friday night they announce that they are going to shut down construction work because they are not getting their way, in turn, putting the safety and economic well-being of our residents at risk. Instead of using working families as human shields, maybe this administration should get serious about transportation funding and agree that there is a legitimate need for more money.

“It’s time for the Governor to stop avoiding the hard decisions – a criticism he has leveled at his predecessors frequently.”
