(TRENTON) – Assembly Deputy Speaker John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), chairman of the Assembly transportation panel, released the following statement Thursday on the ongoing inquiry into the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s decision to close – without public notice – lanes to the George Washington Bridge from Fort Lee:
“I can confirm receipt of documents subpoenaed from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey on the unresolved questions surrounding the closing of Fort Lee access lanes to the George Washington Bridge.
“We will now review these documents, analyze whether they were responsive to our request and proceed accordingly.
“In dismissing today the substantive concerns arising from the alleged Port Authority traffic study at the George Washington Bridge as nothing more than partisan politics, the governor is choosing to ignore a number of issues that point to rampant dysfunction at the agency.
“Shifting explanations for the Port Authority’s alleged traffic study, the governor’s aggressive defense of Mr. Wildstein and Mr. Baroni and the threat to public safety resulting from their actions all raise suspicions that there is still more to be learned.
