Assemblyman John Wisniewski, Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee chair, issued the following statement Monday after the committee received testimony from Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Chairman John Degnan:
“In recent years, New Jersey residents have lost faith that the Port Authority is being run efficiently. The goal of all parties involved, as Chairman Degnan acknowledged, is to reform the agency and restore public trust.
“Today’s meeting with Chairman Degnan and the recent endorsement of a reform bill by governors of both states are encouraging first steps, but this is a long-term process.
“I look forward to a continuing dialogue between the committee and Chairman Degnan as we seek to improve the agency’s transparency and accountability and refocus the Port Authority on its transportation mission.”
