Assemblyman John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement Monday in response to the Governor signing his bill (A-3774) to toughen prohibitions against price gouging during a declared emergency:
“This tool will give our police and prosecutors the necessary powers to go after these immoral businesses.
“We saw unconscionable price gouging during Hurricane Sandy, and we must ensure it never happens again. As a state, we cannot allow vultures to swoop in and take advantage of people during the worst moments of their lives. This bill will go a long way toward giving the authorities the power to go after and prosecute these businesses.”
