ALBANO: PAID FAMILY LEAVE SUCCESS IN EVERY WAY

(1st LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT) – Assemblyman Nelson Albano released the following statement Wednesday on the success of the paid family leave insurance program he sponsored in 2008:

“We heard plenty of predictions of doom and gloom when the paid family leave legislation I sponsored became law in 2008, but it’s becoming more and more clear that this program is one of New Jersey’s best success stories.
“Since the program began, 37,600 hard-working New Jerseyans have taken paid family leave, with 79 percent doing so to bond with a newborn or newly adopted child and rest doing so to care for a seriously ill family member.
“Better yet – thanks to the way this successful law was written – workers will now be paying less into the program In 2010, the maximum amount each New Jersey worker paid into the program was $35.64. The 2011 amount will be $17.76.
“Anyway you look at it, this law is victory for hard-working New Jerseyans and an incentive businesses can use to attract talented workers to our state. It’s a success in every way.”
