Assembly Speaker Joins New Jersey and Nation in Mourning the Loss of Hometown Icon Whitney Houston

With plans underway to pay respects to Whitney Houston in Newark this weekend, Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver, a Newark native and East Orange resident, joined New Jersey and the nation in mourning the loss of the hometown icon:

“Like millions of people around the world, I am truly saddened by the loss of one of New Jersey’s own – a stunning performer and truly one of the greatest voices we’ve ever witnessed.

“It was clear from an early age that Whitney had a unique voice that transcended generations and, perhaps, may never be rivaled. Despite this tragic loss, her iconic voice will live on to undoubtedly inspire future generations.

“My heart goes out to her daughter and the entire Houston family who I have been blessed to know over the years,” said Oliver (D-Essex).
