Holley Statement on Las Vegas Shooting

Assemblyman Jamel Holley (D-Union) issued the following statement Monday in response to the mass shooting that resulted in the death of more than 50 people at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas:

“My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of those who were killed in Las Vegas and with the many who were injured.

“As a former mayor, I understand that a tragedy like this affects not only those who were impacted directly but also the entire Las Vegas community. My heart is with all of the city’s residents, the businesses along the Las Vegas Strip and the area hospitals, first responders and law enforcement agencies providing aid in the midst of carnage.

“The senselessness of the violence that took place in Las Vegas last night is amplified by the fact that the victims were people who simply wanted to convene with others in appreciation of music. Tragically, in attacking those people, the gunman, regardless of his motive, attacked that spirit. As we offer our condolences to those affected by the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history and think about how to put an end to a heartbreaking pattern of massacres in our nation, we must remember, even in our grief, that what brought people together this weekend is stronger than anyone or anything seeking to subdue them.”
