Houghtaling & Vainieri Huttle Bill Allowing Residents to Bet on Horse Racing While Traveling Outside NJ Passes Committee

Legislation Now Heads to Assembly Speaker for Further Consideration

New Jersey residents still want to bet on sporting events while traveling; current law does not allow it. Assembly Democrats Eric Houghtaling and Valerie Vainieri Huttle have sponsored legislation that would permit residents to place wagers on horse races while physically present outside state borders.

Upon the bill (A-2355) being advanced by the Assembly Tourism, Gaming and The Arts Committee Thursday, the sponsors released the following joint statement:

“Allowing our residents to place their bets while traveling out of the state will help ensure New Jersey does not lose out on wagering revenue and that it will remain within our system. Just because our residents are taking a trip doesn’t mean they should have to miss out on the excitement of betting on their favorite sporting event. This bill would allow New Jerseyans to remain a part of the action even if they aren’t currently within our state borders.”
