JOHNSON: CHRIS CHRISTIE’S NEW JERSEY MEANS TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH & NO HEALTH CARE FOR WOMEN

(TRENTON) — Assemblyman Gordon Johnson (D-Bergen) released the following statement Thursday as the Assembly Budget Committee heard from the Department of Health and Senior Services on the governor’s continued lack of support for women’s health care:

“The governor’s refusal to support women’s health care reflects the reality of Chris Christie’s New Jersey.

“In Chris Christie’s New Jersey, millionaires get tax breaks while middle-class and poor women and their children lack health care.

“In Chris Christie’s New Jersey, shameful excuse after shameful excuse is given for failing to support health care for women, even when the money is available and investing it in health care for women would help lower insurance costs for every taxpayer.

“It’s becoming clear that the governor’s opposition to women’s health care is nothing more than his conservative ideology. It certainly cannot be based on sound fiscal and health care policy.

“I once again urge the governor to put this failed thinking aside and do what’s right and support health care for middle-class and poor women and their families. It’s quite simply the decent thing to do.”
