McKeon Welcomes Murphy Audit of NJ Transit

(TRENTON) – Assemblyman John McKeon (D-Essex/Morris), who has co-chaired the Legislature’s investigation into NJ Transit’s continued woes, released the following statement Monday after Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order directing a comprehensive independent audit of NJ Transit:
“I commend Gov. Murphy’s leadership.
“The Legislature has been working hard toward legislative solutions to fix NJ Transit, but as long as Gov. Christie was in office, we lacked a partner. Gov. Christie was in denial and refused to take responsibility, but Gov. Murphy is already doing the right thing.
“Hard-working New Jerseyans deserve a reliable and safe mass transit system led by experts and professionals. I look forward to the results of the audit ordered by Gov. Murphy and to tying it into the work we’re doing in the Legislature. Sadly, we have a long way to go to fix the damage at NJ Transit, but with Gov. Murphy and the Legislature sharing the same goal, I’m confident we can get this right again. We don’t really have a choice. We cannot have a strong New Jersey economy without a strong NJ Transit.”
