** MEDIA ADVISORY ** SENATE & ASSEMBLY TO HOLD JOINT HEARING ON CHRISTIE ADMINISTRATION’S PROPOSED CLOSURE OF VINELAND DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER

A Senate and Assembly panel will travel to Vineland on Tuesday to hold a joint hearing on the Christie administration’s proposed closure of Vineland Developmental Center, which serves patients with developmental disabilities.

The hearing comes as the administration has already begun taking steps to close the facility, despite the recent creation of a joint legislative review panel to study issues relating to the care and costs of providing services to clients in state psychiatric hospitals and developmental centers.

The hearing, to be convened between the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee and the Assembly Human Services Committee, will take testimony from both invited speakers and members of the public.

The hearing will take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 1 pm at Vineland City Hall, 640 East Wood Street, Vineland, NJ.
