(TRENTON) — New Jersey Apportionment Commission Co-Chairman John S. Wisniewski commended the decision Monday by the Honorable Linda R. Feinberg, Assignment Judge of the Mercer Vicinage, to deny the Tea Party’s application for temporary restraints against the new legislative map adopted by the Commission on April 3.
The judge entertained oral argument on the application this morning before determining that the plaintiffs failed to meet court standards for injunctive relief, such as demonstrating that there would be a probability of success on the merits of the case. The ruling means that the June primaries will proceed under the new legislative districts adopted by the Commission.
“The Commission in April adopted a fair, constitutional and forward looking map,” said Wisniewski (D-Middlesex). “Our new map improves upon the existing map in almost every measurable way, including making the map more compact, more competitive and improving ‘one person, one vote’ standards. We are very pleased by Judge Feinberg’s ruling today denying the Tea Party’s application and look forward to final dismissal of the Tea Party’s claim.”
