Speaker Prieto Decries NJ Transit Fare Hike & Service Cuts

Notes Commuters Get Slammed with No Solution for N.J. Transportation Crisis

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Wednesday after NJ Transit approved a 9 percent fare hike and service cuts:

“I’m stunned at the lack of regard for New Jersey commuters. This is a tax increase laid squarely upon the backs of working class residents who have been slammed time and time again by this administration.
“To make matters worse, this does nothing to solve New Jersey’s transportation crisis.
“This increase and the service cuts will be devastating to New Jersey families. NJ Transit should have found ways to cut costs and find efficiencies rather than once again putting the burden on working people and making it even more difficult for them to get to work.
“I’m deeply disappointed in this decision that will hurt New Jersey’s economy.
“NJ Transit must reconsider.”
