Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly (D-Passaic/Bergen) had the following published in The Burlington County Times and the Herald News :
“The recent U.S. Supreme Court decision eliminating a vital and necessary section of the 1965 Voting Rights Act is a disappointing one.
“The ruling removed two sections of the act that required nine states and selective counties with a history of disenfranchising minority voters to seek approval before making any changes to their voting process. The states requiring a pre-clearance from the U.S. Department of Justice included Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas and Virginia…”
