Wisniewski: O’Scanlon Quickly Forgets Reality

(SAYREVILLE) – Assembly Deputy Speaker John Wisniewski (D-Middlesex), chairman of the Assembly transportation panel, released the following statement Friday on claims by Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon that red light camera vendors are to blame for legislation revising red light camera operations not yet advancing:

“Assemblyman O’Scanlon’s claims that pressure from red light camera vendors are the reason legislation changing how red light cameras operate has not advanced yet are misleading and false.
“In case Assemblyman O’Scanlon forgot, his own testimony was among the reasons the bill was held during our recent hearing. Even though he is sponsor, Assemblyman O’Scanlon was critical of the program and the bill in his testimony in front of the committee. We also of course heard from police officials worried the bill would endanger public safety and confuse motorists.
“If we’re to continue our efforts to improve how these red light cameras operate, including answering questions about vendors, then we’re going to need legitimate bipartisan cooperation based on facts. Assemblyman O’Scanlon needs to rise above talk radio-style accusations meant to enflame and attract attention and instead deal in reality.”
