Concerns on Use of Student Fees by Colleges & Universities, Lead Levels in Children & Comcast Blackout of YES Network Highlight Thursday Assembly Committees

(TRENTON) – A look at the recent report by the state comptroller detailing concerns about the use of student fees at state colleges and universities, legislation to improve state regulations regarding elevated blood lead levels in children and testimony on the decision by Comcast Cable to blackout the YES Network highlight Thursday’s Assembly committee hearings.

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
· The Assembly Higher Education Committee will meet at 10 a.m. to hear testimony on the recent report by the state comptroller detailing concerns about the use of student fees at state colleges and universities.
· A-3411 (Muoio/Benson/Singleton/Greenwald/Pinkin/Spencer/Downey) – Requires DOH regulations regarding elevated blood lead levels in children, and appropriate responses thereto, to be consistent with latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. 10 a.m. Health and Senior Services.
· The Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee will hold a 10 a.m. hearing on the decision by Comcast Cable to blackout the YES Network and its content. As a result more than 600,000 customers in New Jersey are denied the opportunity to watch televised Yankee games. It will also consider AR-143 (Coughlin/DeAngelo/Vainieri Huttle) – Urges Comcast to resolve dispute with YES Network.
· A-1970 (Prieto/Lagana/Lampitt/Wimberly/Quijano) – Prohibits retail sales establishment from storing certain magnetic-stripe data; requires reimbursement for costs incurred by financial institution due to breach of security. 10 a.m. Financial Institutions and Insurance.
· A-542 (Pinkin/Conaway/Giblin/Holley/Danielsen/Mukherji/Wimberly) – Requires certain health care facilities to provide information concerning palliative care and hospice care services. 10 a.m. Health and Senior Services.
· A-3383 (Conaway/Johnson/Eustace/Gusciora) – Requires certain places of public assembly to have automated external defibrillator on-site. 10 a.m. Health and Senior Services.
· A-2240 (DeAngelo/Houghtaling) – Requires certain CATV companies to provide free Internet access to public libraries. 10 a.m. Telecommunications and Utilities Committee.
· A-XXXX (Benson) – Upgrades assault on victims who are elderly or disabled. 2 p.m. Law and Public Safety.
· A-2519 (DeAngelo) – Directs Attorney General to develop plan to disseminate Amber and Silver Alert information through social media. 2 p.m. Law and Public Safety.
· A-2674 (DeAngelo) – Establishes a “Blue Alert System.” 2 p.m. Law and Public Safety.
· A-3626 (McKnight) – Prohibits release of personal identifying information of violent crime victims and witnesses under State’s open public records law. 2 p.m. Law and Public Safety.
· A-1668 (Schaer) – Establishes New Jersey Commission on Higher Education and Business Partnerships. 10 a.m. Higher Education.
· A-2069 (Gusciora/Eustace) – Permits municipalities to issue retail liquor licenses for use in certain historic taverns. 2 p.m. Regulatory Oversight.
· A-1029 (Jasey/Green/Holley/Muoio) – Codifies the Judiciary’s Foreclosure Mediation Program; dedicates monies from foreclosure filing fees and fines. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.
· A-2027 (Green/Eustace) – Concerns membership and management of homeowners associations. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.
· A-2043 (Gusciora/Vainieri-Huttle/Benson) – Establishes “Naturally Occurring Retirement Community” pilot program; appropriates $250,000. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.
· A-3431 (McKnight/Chiaravalloti) – Requires lobby security for certain senior citizen high-rise buildings in areas with high violent crime rates. 2 p.m. Housing and Community Development.
